In Children’s Education Center – regular park admission. Barbara Cairns will do a special children’s reading program on the second Saturday of every month from October through May. In addition to reading a story, Barbara will include poems, and a follow up activity for the children to do at home. There is no additional charge above regular park admission.

WILDLIFE WEEK IN THE PARK

Monday, July 21 to Saturday July 26, 2008 9:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m. Monday through Friday with Graduation Saturday morning. $45 per child. Summer Fun Camp program for children who will be going into 5th and 6th grades in the fall. Children will learn about various Florida wildlife and their habitats through activities and crafts. Limited space is available so advance registration is required.

Regular park admission The park’s gardening supervisor Marion Knudsen’s fall gardening workshop explains how you can use low-maintenance native plants and xeriscaping to conserve water resources and enjoy carefree Florida gardening. HAUNTED TRAM RIDES
Friday, October 24, 2008 and Saturday, October 25, 2008

Tram rides $5.00 donation for adults (age 13 and over), and $3.00 for children Haunted House featuring the “Alien Encounter” $2.00 per person Lots of family fun awaits you at the Friends of Homosassa Springs Wildlife Park’s annual Haunted Tram Rides. Board the trams for a haunting trip down Pepper Creek Trail where you will experience a series of spooky scenarios. A Haunted House featuring “the Alien Encounter” will be set up in the Florida Room. Games for the children and clowns will provide lots of fun. Halloween Costume Contests for different age groups. The Sheriff’s Department will provide a Child Identification program. Refreshments and souvenirs will be available.

CHRISTMAS CELEBRATION OF LIGHTS

Sponsored by the Friends of Homosassa Springs Wildlife Park – $2.00 donation for adults and $1.00 for children ages 3 through 12 The community is invited to come out and enjoy the park decked out for the holidays with thousands of twinkling lights, decorations and holiday music during this multi-evening event. A variety of entertainments will be scheduled and refreshments will be available.

LU, THE HIPPO’S BIRTHDAY
Monday, January 26, 2009 10:00 a.m. and again at 12:30 p.m.

Regular Park admission
(First, second and third graders from Homosassa Elementary are admitted FREE to hippo’s birthday party) Lu, will be celebrating his 47th birthday in 2009, is presented with a party each year on a date near his birthday of January 26th. Park Rangers present the hippo with a special birthday cake while visitors, staff and local school children sing “Happy Birthday” to this popular park resident. School children enjoy cupcakes and lemonade.

CITRUS WATERCOLOR CLUB SHOW & SALE

HOMOSASSA HERITAGE DAY

Film showings and Florida Room activities free (Regular admission applies for entrance into Wildlife Park) Exhibits and programs in the Florida Room at the Visitor Center on the history of the park and the Homosassa area. Former employees, their families and anyone interested in the heritage of the park and this area are invited to attend. Historical photos will be on display and throughout the wildlife park. Former employees may register as Homosassa Heritage Keepers and will receive a pass for free park admission on this date.
